Film & TV Acting Foundations is a 4-week live virtual acting class focused on the skills actors need to create truthful, connected performances for film and television. Through scene work, script analysis, character development, on-camera practice, and personalized feedback, you'll learn how to make stronger choices, trust your instincts, and bring more depth to your work.
Classes are offered in scheduled 4-week sessions throughout the year, with new sessions forming based on enrollment. Class sizes are kept small so every actor has time to work, receive feedback, and take redirects.

What We'll Work On
Week 1: Script Analysis + Strong Choices
Good acting starts before you ever say the first line.
We'll learn how to break down a script and find the information that helps you make stronger, more specific choices.
We'll work on:
Given circumstances
Relationships
Objectives and intentions
Obstacles and stakes
Beats and shifts
Subtext
What happens before the scene begins
Making specific choices
Using the script without getting trapped by it
Actors will begin working with scene material and putting these tools into practice.
Week 2: Scene Work + Listening
You know that moment when you realize you've been waiting for the other actor to stop talking so you can say your line?
We're going to work on that.
This week focuses on connection, behavior, and actually allowing the other person to affect you.
We'll work on:
Basic Audition skills
How to create a self-tape that books
Listening and reacting
Staying present
Building believable relationships
Emotional connection
Responding instead of planning
Creating behavior instead of "performing"
Getting out of your head
Trusting your choices
Working with a scene partner
Week 3: Character + Going Deeper
Now we'll start layering more into the work.
We'll explore how character, circumstances, relationships, and point of view affect your performance without forcing choices or trying to "act like a character."
We'll work on:
Character development
Point of view
Physical and vocal choices
Emotional stakes
Subtext
Making bold but believable choices
Bringing more of yourself to the role
Staying truthful while stretching beyond yourself
Week 4: On-Camera Performance + Redirects
This is where we put everything together.
Actors will perform prepared material on camera and receive individual coaching and redirects.
We'll work on:
Applying script analysis to performance
Making clear, specific choices
Staying connected on camera
Taking direction
Making adjustments without losing what was working
Trying completely different approaches
Trusting your instincts
Understanding what reads on camera
Strengthening your overall performance
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need previous acting experience?
No. This program can help newer actors build a strong foundation while also giving actors with some experience an opportunity to strengthen their technique.
Is this a beginner acting class?
Not exactly. Actors come into training with different levels of experience. The focus is on fundamental skills that every actor needs, whether you're learning them for the first time or realizing you could use a refresher. We build on where you are and make sure you are not ACTING, you are creating a believable experience for the viewer.
Do I have to take Commercial Foundations first?
No. Commercial Acting & Audition Foundations and Film & TV Acting Foundations are separate programs. You can take either one first or take both for a more well-rounded foundation. Commercial and Audition Foundations is the best place to start if you are totally new to the industry.
Will we work on scenes?
Yes. Scene work is a major part of this intensive. You'll use scenes to practice script analysis, relationships, objectives, character work, listening, and on-camera performance.
Is this class virtual?
Yes. All classes are taught live through Google Meet and are open to actors across the United States.
What can I take after Film & TV Acting Foundations?
Actors who are ready for ongoing training can continue into the EVAS Actor Lab, where you'll regularly work scenes, audition material, cold reads, self-tapes, character work, and other material designed to keep challenging you.
